Over the past few years we have seen the number of DofE groups using the site increase. We believe that this is due to the unique location of the site which is within walking distance of a range of other camp sites. Outlined below is some information for making planning DofE practices and expeditions easier.
Please be aware that Broadstone Warren has open boundaries with neighbouring properties which has led to teams crossing into private property and is a cause for concern to the owners. We would ask that teams be reminded to ensure that they stick to the marked public footpaths, common land areas and also abide by other notices and signs they come across. We would also be pleased if you would remind teams about not littering on the forest.
As a site we provide camping space for any numbers in the group. We often have groups of between four and one hundred and fifty DofE participants staying on site for training or the expedition. Some stay for one night and others for longer. We can also provide training rooms in the form of our Hall, Field Study Centre or Meeting Room that are ideal for indoor training. More information about camping and indoor accommodation can be found on this website.
Plantation Lodge is ideal for any adults who are staying on site, but don’t want to camp with the young people for whatever reason. This small building sleeps four in two bunks, and has cold running water and a small stove.
The area surrounding Broadstone Warren mainly consists of the Ashdown Forest, much of which is open access to walkers. There is good access to footpaths, including National Trails such as the Sussex Border Path and the Vanguard Way. There are a couple of main roads that border the site and may need to be crossed depending on the direction of travel, including the A22. We strongly recommend that groups do not walk along any roads.
